Newspaper Dads Were Built Different

Something about seeing old clips of our father’s popping open a newspaper I’ll sit on the john makes me wanna go back in time…

As you’re probably reading this on your phone or laptop, I want you to think back to the days of growing up when you’re sitting at the kitchen table, eating your bowl of corn pops or Lucky charms, and look across to your dad, who is on page 4 of the local newspaper with a cup of black coffee sitting in front of him, like there’s no problems in the world.

Every once in a while, I watch shows or movies that feature times before cell phones and modern technology was created, and as a simple man myself, I only sit here and wonder what life would’ve been like opening the newspaper and reading the scores from the night before and finding the gambling lines in the sports section before opening an app on my phone.

I mean, look at these motherfuckers! They look like the happiest guys right now, with no care in the world. No screaming wife in their ear, nothing but good old-fashioned current events sitting in front of them.

Maybe this is just me, but the idea of the crinkling of the paper in my hands, and the attention to detail you have to have in order to read the small print in certain stories, just fascinates me. I’m not a big phone guy, I can go days, possibly weeks without having to check an Instagram, TikTok, and especially my work email on certain days. So yeah, the idea of bringing newspapers back to being relevant and doing things old-school like our fathers did and their fathers before them, seems like we should at least just give it a try and see what happens.

Who else agrees: Reading a newspaper seems like a pretty manly thing to do!
