Home Run Derby Ideas

A great event made even better with these sport-altering ideas...

A spectacle that has historic value to us sports fans as a great way to showcase top talent in the game of baseball annually. You add in cold beer and an illustrious Chris Berman "BACK, BACK, BACK" call and you have yourself an evening.
With that in mind, here are some ideas to make a great event even better:
Hit The Ball Off The Tee
Now this is one for the ball players reading this and knowing the appreciation level we would have for a major leaguer going yard with a ball off the tee. A lot of wall scrapers and even non homeruns would come out of this and we wouldn't get monster shots like this. Yet, I know the baseballers in here would like to see even a fun bonus round involving these big boys slapping one down the line off the tee for a few.
Metal Bat Bonus Round
I mean you watch this video, listen to that absolute pure sound the ball makes coming off that hunk of metal and tell me you wouldn't want a few swings of this each year in the derby? Our goal each year with the derby is to take us back to the steroid era days where Bonds, McGwire, Sosa were hitting 500+ foot bombs into the nosebleeds of the outfield bleachers. And another thing, not only would us fans love this addition, but I am sure the players would have a hell of a time whacking those bonus round pitches into the stratosphere.
Scoreboard Counter For Kids In The Outfield

The kids in the outfield is a great move that the MLB had because what kid wouldn't love the chance to camp under a flyball from one of their idols in the game. The gambler in me wants to find as many avenues to spend my depleted paycheck on anything sports related. So do this: give each kid a number on their shirt, give binoculars to a few interns from the MLB and have them track the number of catches from each kid. Then in the top left or right corner of the screen have the live kid catches tracker for us to have another thing to root for. A battle of two thirteen year old 6 footers battling in left field for the crown of catch king in the outfield.
Live Gambling Picks From Other All Stars

I mentioned my love for gambling and he is another way to enhance that for my fellow sports gamblers. The All Stars sitting around taking it all in should be able to share with ESPN their live betting picks that get relayed on the in-game tracker on the bottom of our television screens so we can ride with our favourite player's live bets.
Shirtless Swings

Fully prefacing this by saying not my choice, but a good way for the MLB to get the Taylor Swift/NFL females fans to baseball is by having these guys hit moonshots topless.
Creative Tiebreaker Scenario
I don't even know what the tiebreaker is currently in the home run derby, but if two guys are even after their rounds then they hit a home run and come up with the most creative bat flip and corresponding home run trot. Is that not ABSOLUTELY ELECTRIC?!? The roar of the stadium after seeing a player doing a cartwheel between the bases, doing a eurostep, or even doing their best Kirk Gibson impersonation for you ball players that know what I am talking about.
